Pre-op assessment is important to gauge and quantify the medical risk for a patient and reduce it as much as possible. The important question for the anaesthetist is ‘Are you as well as you can be?’ If not, why not, and what can the anaesthetist do to optimise your condition?
You are required to complete an Anaesthesia Assessment Patient Questionnaire. This is available on the website here or you can obtain a copy from your surgeon. You will need to forward this to your Anaesthetist who will be responsible for your care.
Occasionally the Anaesthetist may wish to see you preoperatively.
