Epsom-Anaesthesia

What You Need To Know

Fasting for Surgery

It is recommended that you do not take any food for at least six hours before your operation. Unless specifically instructed by your anaesthetist, surgeon or the hospital to which you are being admitted you may take clear fluids up until 2 hours before surgery. It is important to follow these instructions.

If there is food or non-clear liquid in your stomach during your anaesthetic, it could come up to the back of your throat and damage your lungs.
